Monday update

Two more today:-
#26. Sunset Blvd. I'd been putting off watching this because I assumed it was a musical, but actually it's not and I really enjoyed it. Another classic film which really can't have cost much to make, because it's pure acting and not many different sets. #26 seems a bit generous but still, it was more fun than not.
#83. Metropolis. This is the sort of film I would just never watch if I weren't doing this, because it's a) very old (1927) b) very long (over two hours) c) very silent. To be honest I had no idea what was going on for most of it, and the picture quality was awful so I couldn't even admire it artistically. Maybe it had some subliminal benefit to understanding of myself as a member of society, as that's certainly what IMDB would have me to believe, but this really reminded me of why I'm not good at watching films.

Thanks to everyone who has pledged specific films to me, in particular the following:-
Eley: The Red Shoes.
Sean: Grave of Fireflies, Princess Mononoke.
Ollie: Lawrence of Arabia, Rebecca, Schindler's List, The Lives of Others, Some Like It Hot (I think I might have The Lives of Others somewhere, but I can't find it.)
Hallam: Léon, Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Magnolia.
Ev: American History X, L.A. Confidential, Rebecca, The Sting, Hotel Rwanda, The Deer Hunter, Platoon, Million Dollar Baby, The Big Lebowski, Shadow of a Doubt, Casino, Magnolia, Mystic River, Rocky, Schindler's List, Léon, Taxi Driver, WALL·E, The Pianist, Requiem for a Dream, Der Untergang, La vita è bella, Heat, Yojimbo, The Graduate, Ratatouille, La dolce vita.

So that'll be enough to keep me going for a while.

Now for a list of all the others that I don't currently have access to. If you happen to have any of these lying around, do let me know. Here:- Paths of Glory, M (1931), The Departed, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Pianist, Chinatown, Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi [Spirited Away], Das Boot, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Raging Bull, The Maltese Falcon, Gran Torino, Amadeus, The Elephant Man, Nuovo cinema Paradiso [Cinema Paradiso], The Great Dictator, Once Upon a Time in America, Ladri di biciclette [The Bicycle Thief], The Sting, Star Trek (2009), On the Waterfront, Det sjunde inseglet [The Seventh Seal], The Wrestler, Unforgiven, The Manchurian Candidate, Oldboy, High Noon, Cool Hand Luke, The Big Sleep, The General, Witness for the Prosecution, Smultronstället [Wild Strawberries], It Happened One Night, Heat, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Yojimbo, Annie Hall, Les diaboliques, Judgment at Nuremberg, Platoon, Into the Wild, Le notti di Cabiria, Le salaire de la peur, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Grapes of Wrath, 8½, The Hangover, The Big Lebowski, The Gold Rush, The Graduate, The Night of the Hunter, Stand by Me, The Killing, Brief Encounter, Gandhi, Dog Day Afternoon, Amores perros [Love's A Bitch], Gone with the Wind, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, Scarface, The Thing, Groundhog Day, The Wild Bunch, The Terminator, Sleuth, The Kid, Harvey, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Hustler, Umberto D., Shadow of a Doubt, Stalag 17, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Lady Vanishes, The Ox-Bow Incident, The African Queen, Anatomy of a Murder, A Streetcar Named Desire, La battaglia di Algeri, Letters from Iwo Jima, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Låt den rätte komma in [Let the Right One In], King Kong, The Lost Weekend, The Conversation, The Exorcist, La strada, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Ed Wood, His Girl Friday, Le scaphandre et le papillon, Safety Last!, Bonnie and Clyde, Changeling, Rosemary's Baby, All Quiet on the Western Front, Sweet Smell of Success, The Philadelphia Story, Network, Manhattan, Frankenstein, Patton, Great Expectations, Laura, Big Fish, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Day the Earth Stood Still, My Man Godfrey, Glory, Roman Holiday, Rocky, The Big Parade, In the Heat of the Night, Harold and Maude, Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens.
